PDL Local Advisory Committee Member for Western Australia

Purpose

Pharmaceutical Defence Limited (PDL) Local Advisory Committees are established throughout Australia to help meet the needs of all pharmacists who may be involved in an incident requiring assistance covered under their Professional Indemnity insurance (PI) Policy, or any other matter relating to their role as a pharmacist.

Role

The Local Advisory Committee has two critical roles:

  1. To provide confidential guidance, support and direction in relation to matters pertaining to a pharmacist’s role under the relevant Pharmacy Act in Western Australia that is covered under their PDL PI Policy.
  2. To advocate to the national PDL Board on any matters deemed necessary.

The Local Advisory Committee is appointed by the PDL Board in an advisory capacity to members of PDL. It has no executive authority.

The Local Advisory Committee (LAC):

  • Provides a central focus for all PDL member pharmacists in each jurisdiction.
  • Provides strategic care and guidance for all PDL members.
  • Brings to the attention of the PDL Professional Officers and/or board any matter that it regards as relevant to the enhancement of pharmacy, such as risk management, pharmacist support services, use of technology, packaging and labelling, warnings to members and any other matter it sees fit.
  • Members of the LAC are expected to keep current with all pharmacy issues, especially in relation to errors, risk reduction and emerging areas of practice.
  • It is expected all LAC members will have a good understanding of local and national legal requirements and be prepared to represent PDL at events, conduct presentations and assist members.
  • Note: this is a part-time Committee role, consisting of at least four meetings per year.
  • Membership of the LAC attracts a small honorarium.
  • The Local Advisory Committee aims to represent the broad demographic of pharmacy in relation to gender, experience and pharmacy setting. This opportunity would be well suited to an enthusiastic pharmacist interested in improving medication safety for the profession.
