The PDL Director elections for the New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory seat as well as for Western Australia were held recently, with the two incumbents being re-elected by the members for a further four years.
Announced at the Annual General Meeting on Thursday 21 October, NSW/ ACT Director, Curtis Ruhnau, has been part of the PDL Board of Directors since 2013 and is grateful to have been re-elected to the position.
“As always, my role is to represent the interests of PDL members, pharmacists in Australia and pharmacy owners. Thanks to all PDL members who voted (for any candidate) and who helped to spread the word. The best part is that any of the three of us would have been a good representative so the members couldn’t lose. That’s a nice situation to have”.
Curtis is a partner in Emerton Pharmacy, where he works regularly with his wife Margaret. He has tutored medical students in Personal and Professional Development and is the PDL representative on the Pharmacists’ Support Service, with a keen interest in mental health and self-care for pharmacists.
Director for Western Australia, Celia Sansom, is also thrilled to have been re-elected to continue to represent the PDL members of WA.
Celia was appointed PDL Director for WA in September 2017. Celia is a Director of the Pharmaceutical Society WA and currently sits on four boards, while also examining the pharmacy oral exams on behalf of PBA. Her areas of expertise include intern training, examining, governance, leadership, investment and mentoring.
The elections were competitive, with Ben Wilkins and Mark Leighton contesting the NSW/ACT position and Karen McNally and Nathalka Sakalo vying for the WA role.
PDL CEO, David Brown, congratulated Curtis and Celia on their re-elections and thanked the other nominees. “Celia and Curtis have been strong contributors to the board and both have excellent engagement with the members, as evidenced by their re-election. I would like to add that we were absolutely delighted to receive nominations from such high calibre candidates for these two roles”.
